Let's dig a little deeper into the purpose and values of VIP Therapy, LLC. Right now we'll call it "the one woman show". It's just me here! Owner and Occupational Therapist for VIP Therapy. I knew I wanted to be an OT since high school; how? I've always had an interest in the medical field and helping others but I also have the desire to educate, listen, and learn. I thought about going to college for education, however the demand for teachers during that time was low making it more difficult to find a job. In my junior year career class, I took a quiz that asked questions related to my personality type, values, interests, and knowledge. The top two careers that appeared were 'Occupational Therapist' and 'Teacher'. I immediately searched on google "What is an Occupational Therapist?" After doing some research I quickly decided to pursue my education in OT.
Unfortunately, in today's society there are many extrinsic factors that play a role into the provision of medical services. One of the biggest factors is insurance companies. Healthcare is a business and insurance plays a large role in dictating copays, deductibles and types of services covered. In addition to insurance companies, the healthcare corporations themselves are largely involved in the provision of services. Corporations create their 'guidelines' to providing nursing and rehabilitation services which allow them to make a profit, of course. It's a business. However, with these 'guidelines' come some extensive ethical questions... (We'll get into ethics of OT at another time) In short, there are many restrictions placed on today's clinicians which may limit the client-centered, holistic, and empathetic care they wish to provide.
VIP Therapy is designed to focus on the client and the client's goals. Our goal is to provide true client-centered and functionally based treatment without the impacts of large insurance companies and corporations in the delivery of services. We provide services to clients within their environment and focus on achieving engagement in occupation while maintaining independence and quality of life.
